Rant: The old timer in Tulsa got me to stop using my shop vac after a 3 foot creosote flake landed on his rug
I was sweeping a fireplace in a 1920s bungalow near Cherry Street and pulled out this huge flake that my Shop Vac just smeared around. He told me to switch to a rotary loop on a drill with a HEPA bag, and his rug stayed clean. Anyone else made that switch, or do you still run a vac for the fine dust?
The rotary loop is great for the chunky flakes but it won't do much for the fine dust, that's still on the vac. You really want both, loop to break up the big stuff and a HEPA vac after to grab what's left. The old timer's rug stayed clean because the loop kept the mess off the floor, not because the loop replaces the vac.
