TIL my new kitchen scale glitches with wet ingredients

I was portioning out dough and the numbers jumped all over the place. How are you supposed to get accurate measures when it does that?

I read moisture messes with the strain gauge sensors.

Used to assume these sensors were bulletproof until I saw one fail in a humid warehouse. Turns out they need to be properly sealed or the readings go wild. Really changed how I look at sensor specs now.

Wait, that's actually a huge design flaw if true. Strain gauges are in everything from industrial scales to airplane wings. Moisture is everywhere in real world use. How did engineers not solve that basic problem from the start? It makes the whole sensor seem super fragile for anything outside a lab. That's like building a raincoat that melts in water.
