Spent $450 on a Japanese carbon steel wok back in '08 and it's still my go-to pan for everything from searing scallops to tossing noodles.

Anyone else find that some of the older, simpler gear just outlasts and outperforms all the new 'innovative' stuff they keep trying to sell us?

That line about older, simpler gear outlasting new stuff is so true. I mean, my main skillet is a basic cast iron from a yard sale, and nothing sticks to it like the non-stick pans I've burned through. They just don't build things to handle real heat anymore. You got a good one back in '08 for sure.

My buddy's fancy blender died after two years, but his mom's old one from the 90s still makes smoothies every day. They used thicker plastic and better motors back then. It's wild how much longer the simple stuff lasts.
