Herb storage tip that changed my kitchen routine

I always stored herbs loose in the fridge. They turned slimy fast. A chef showed me to trim the stems and place them in water. My parsley lasted a full week this way. Skip this step and you might waste good product. I saw a line cook toss perfect dill because it was wilted. Try this method to save time and money.

How much good basil have I thrown out over the years? I felt that pain about the wasted dill, I've been there too. This water trick is a real game changer for cutting down waste.

My mint plant thrives on neglect, but the cut stems still need that water trick.

10 days is how long my cilantro lasted with the water trick. I change the water every other day to stop it from getting gross. This works for parsley, basil, and mint, but for thyme and rosemary, I use a damp paper towel in a bag. My fridge used to be a herb graveyard, now everything has a place. I probably cut my herb spending in half since I started. It's all about giving each type what it needs to stay crisp.
