The $2 taco stand in San Antonio taught me about portions

I stopped at this little place near the north side market last Tuesday, not expecting much. Their regular tacos come with double the meat of the big chains for the same price, and I counted 14 brisket chunks on one tortilla. I asked the lady behind the counter how they pull that off, and she just laughed and said they buy whole shoulders from the butcher down the street. It made me wonder how many other small spots are quietly beating the drive-throughs on value. Anyone else got a place that makes you question the national brands?
