Just realized my grocery bill dropped $47 a week when I switched from one big trip to 3 small ones
I used to do one huge run at the SuperValu over in Beaverton every Sunday and drop like $180 to $200 without blinking. About 6 weeks ago my fridge died and I had to buy food every couple days while I waited for a replacement, and my card statement showed only $130 to $140 each week for the same meals. Part of it is I stopped tossing half a bag of spinach and a sad bunch of cilantro every single time. But the other side of me says I'm burning gas and time doing 3 stops instead of 1, and the little corner market near me charges more per item. So which is it, is the small trip thing actually saving money or did I just get lucky for a month? Curious what the math looks like for everybody else, especially if you got a big family to feed.
That spinach thing is so real, I used to dump half a bag every week too. We started doing two smaller trips at Aldi and the local produce stand, and our bill went from around $210 down to $160 for a family of four. The gas is like $3 extra so it's still a win.
