The hostess at a diner in Missoula told me her whole first date cost $11 and I've been thinking about it for a week
I was waiting on a to go order at this diner in Missoula around 2 am after a shift, and the hostess was telling another server about a date she went on. She said they got two hot chocolates and split a basket of fries and then walked along the river for two hours. Total came to $11. She said it was the best date she'd had all year and the guy she went out with last month spent $90 on dinner and she was bored the whole time. I've been with my partner for six years and we've fallen into this thing where a night out means spending $60 minimum or we just stay home. Hearing her say that made me feel kind of dumb. A walk and some fries would've done it the whole time. I'm not knocking nice dinners, but I think we forgot that the cheap stuff can be just as good if you actually like the person. So what's your go to cheap date that doesn't feel cheap? Bonus points if it works in the winter when it's too cold to walk around.
My buddy did the indoor picnic thing last winter when it was like 5 degrees out and he didn't want to blow his whole paycheck. He grabbed a $5 frozen pizza, some cheap wine, and they spread a blanket on his living room floor with candles everywhere. She still brings it up two years later. Meanwhile he took some other girl to a steakhouse and she barely looked up from her phone. The setting doesn't matter near as much as the effort, and being warm and fed with someone you actually like beats a fancy table every time lol
