Shoutout to the 72 year old man at the laundromat who told me a 25 cent wash is still a date
I was sitting in the laundromat on Vine last Tuesday folding towels when this older guy next to me started talking about how he used to take his wife to the coin laundry when they were broke in the early 80s. He said they'd bring a thermos of coffee and split a sandwich from the deli next door and call it a night out, and the whole thing cost them maybe $3.50. I asked if she ever complained and he laughed and said she still brings it up like it was a fancy dinner. That hit different for me since my partner and I keep pushing plans back waiting for a night we can drop $80 on dinner. So last Friday we did our own version: brought two coffees from the gas station and folded clothes together and honestly it was more fun than the last restaurant we went to. He also said the dryer is where good conversations happen since you just have to sit there. Anyway I'm curious what other chores people have turned into a cheap date. Has anyone made grocery shopping or filling up the car feel like an actual outing?
