Can we talk about how a $4 diner breakfast beats a fancy brunch date every time?
Two months ago my wife and I tried the trendy brunch spot downtown. $62 for eggs, a waffle, and two mimosas, plus a 40 minute wait outside in the cold. Felt like a chore.
So the next Saturday we went to the old diner off Route 9 near Middletown. Two eggs, hash browns, toast, coffee, $11 total for both of us. Sat by the window, talked for an hour, nobody rushed us. She still brings it up more than the fancy place.
People here keep posting rooftop bars and wine tastings like that's the only way to feel special. It's not. A cheap breakfast counter with good light and no line does the same job for a quarter of the price.
What's your go-to cheap breakfast spot that actually feels like a date?
