My sister's $50 bookstore cat book vs the $8 thrift store one, and the cheap one wins
She grabbed this big glossy hardcover at a shop in Savannah last weekend, pretty photos but half the pages are just the same sleeping tabby from 12 angles. The $8 one I found at Goodwill has actual stories from owners and a whole chapter of cats sitting on newspaper stacks, and I've flipped through it way more. Where do you all find the weird ones that aren't just filler?
The "same sleeping tabby from 12 angles" thing made me laugh because I read somewhere that a lot of those pretty coffee table pet books are basically photo dumps. The publisher picks one good looking cat, shoots it for a day, and stretches it across 150 pages. The thrift store ones are usually older, from back when pet books had to actually say something to sell, so you get real stories and weird stuff like that newspaper stack chapter you mentioned. I've had good luck at estate sales and library book sales for that kind of thing, since the old cat books nobody wants end up there for a buck. Half the fun is not knowing what odd chapter you're gonna get.
