Warning: That calming collar gave my cat a rash on her neck
I bought a pheromone calming collar for my 8-year-old tabby, thinking it would help with her nighttime yowling. Three days later, she was scratching at it constantly and I found red, irritated skin under the collar band. Have any of you seen this reaction, or is there a safer way to calm a nervous cat without putting something around their neck?

Wait, it only took three days for the rash to show up? That's crazy fast for a reaction. Honestly, I'd ditch the collar immediately and try a plug-in diffuser instead, since those don't touch their skin at all.

Throw that collar away, right now. Three days is plenty of time for a reaction to show up. I've seen this with my own cats and a couple of my neighbors' cats too. @jordan184 is right on the money with the plug-in diffuser - that's what I'd try next. Just make sure you put it somewhere the cat can't knock it over, and give it a full two weeks to really kick in. Some cats are just too sensitive for anything rubbing on their neck like that.
