Rant: My carry-on exploded in the Amsterdam airport terminal

Was in Schiphol last spring. My bag tipped off a luggage cart and hit the marble floor. Zipper split wide open. Clothes and toiletries everywhere. Had to buy a 10 euro duct tape roll from a gift shop just to hold the thing together for the rest of the trip. Anyone else had a bag fail mid trip and had to jury rig it?

I see it a little different with the "had to buy a 10 euro duct tape roll" part. A good roll of duct tape is a cheap fix that's saved my luggage more than once, and 10 euros sounds like a fair price for something that got you through the rest of the trip.

Tape down the zipper pulls too so they don't snag on conveyor belts, learned that the hard way.
