That time a retired installer told me to stretch seams diagonal, I laughed at him
Guy I subbed for back in March over in Tulsa kept insisting I pull my seam stretcher at an angle instead of straight across. I figured he was stuck in the old days, so I ignored it and did my usual method. Second room had a ripple show up right along the seam three days later. Customer called, I went back, and sure enough the carpet had relaxed and shifted because I didn't account for the backing weave. I redid that seam on my knees with his trick and it laid flat as a board. Took me four extra trips and about $120 in gas and lost time to learn what he was saying. Has anyone else had a graybeard give advice that sounded crazy but actually clicked after you tried it?
