Can we talk about the guy who told me to stop stretching carpet so tight

A 30-year installer in Toledo told me my wrinkles come back because I'm pulling too hard and bowing the tack strip, not because I'm not pulling enough. Now I'm second guessing every room I've stretched in the past 6 months, so how do you all know when it's tight enough without overdoing it?
