Rant: the guy at my lumber yard in Tulsa keeps calling 2x4s 'two by fours' and I finally snapped
So I'm at the yard on 11th Street picking up studs for a garage frame, and this newer kid behind the counter keeps saying 'two by four' like it's a real size. It's a 2x4, which is 1.5 by 3.5, and if you cut your plates based on a true 2 inches you're gonna be 8 inches short on a 16 foot wall. I showed him my tape and he just shrugged, so now I want to hear how other folks handle this without sounding like a jerk.

2x4 has meant 1.5x3.5 since before that kid was born, so just call it a 2x4 and let the tape do the talking.
