Overheard a client call a miter saw 'the noisy angle thing'
It was a homeowner in Bellingham, and it made me realize how much of our trade's language is just gibberish to normal people. I've started explaining tools by what they do, not just their names, and it cuts down on confusion. Do you guys have simpler terms you use with clients for common tools?

I used to just rattle off tool names, but now I call a stud finder the "beepy wall scanner.

Beepy wall scanner is a good name, but it's not quite right. Those things don't scan the wall, they just find the studs. The beep tells you where the wood is behind the drywall. Calling it a scanner makes it sound fancier than it is. It's just a simple magnetic or electronic sensor.
