A finish guy in Toledo told me my miters were 'polite' and it took me a month to figure out what he meant
I was cutting miters on some maple casing last spring and he watched me fit one up and just said 'that's polite.' I asked what he meant and he told me I was springing the joint tight to hide the gap instead of fixing the cut, which he said would open up by fall. I got annoyed but I checked a set of doors in a house I did 8 months earlier and two corners had opened up about a 32nd, so he was right. Now I true the saw once a week and check with a square before I ever touch a glue bottle. Any of you ever have a joint fail months later and trace it back to your setup instead of the glue?
