Watching a guy in Dallas turn down a $12k raise because it came with a "senior" title
I sat in on a team meeting 4 months ago where a coworker got offered a bump from $78k to $90k, but he said no because the new title meant he would have to manage 3 interns. He kept saying he wanted to stay an "individual contributor" even though the actual job was the same. Now he is stuck at the same pay while the rest of us moved up. Has anyone else seen someone pass on more money just because of a word on their business card?

Saw this at my last job. Guy turned down a lead spot because it meant running the weekly client calls. Took the title, kept his same desk, just had to talk on Zoom for 20 minutes a week. Coworker who said no is still at $72k two years later. The extra money is real, the title is just a word. He could have taken the bump and found another job later using the new title on his resume.
