Took a $15k pay cut for a startup role and it was the best move I ever made.

My old boss said I was crazy to leave the steady corporate gig, but the hands-on experience and equity stake were worth way more. Anyone else gamble on a lower salary for a bigger opportunity?

Totally get why your old boss was nervous, but corporate salary only tells part of the story. The real value is in building something from the ground up and owning a piece of it. That hands-on chaos teaches you more in a year than a decade of safe, siloed work ever could. What kind of work are you doing at the startup that you couldn't do before?

Wait, you gave up fifteen grand just like that? That's a massive chunk of change to walk away from on a gamble. I hope that equity stake is a real piece of the company and not just a promise.

Hell yeah, did the same thing a few years back. Took a pay cut to be the first marketing hire at a tiny tech company. Got to build the whole strategy from scratch, which was way better than just being a cog in a big machine. That experience got me my current job, and the equity actually paid out a little when they got bought.
