The absurd six-week quest for a single signature at my old job

Early in my career, I needed a form signed to move to a new team. My boss said it would be quick, but he kept putting it off. For six weeks, I sent daily emails and left sticky notes on his desk. One Friday, I decided to wait outside his office until he left. He finally came out at 7 PM, signed the form in two seconds, and said 'Sorry, forgot about this.' The whole thing was silly, but it showed me to track things closely and not assume others will remember. Now, I use a simple checklist for all my tasks. It saves me from similar waits and keeps my work on track.

Heard a podcast on office inefficiency. Sounds familiar.

My buddy's manager makes him get three signatures just to order pens. The whole floor knows it's dumb but the process stays.

The signatures are probably the most important work being done there.
