PSA: The networking event at the downtown library was a total waste of time

I went to the Career Connections thing at the Denver Public Library last Tuesday and it was just 40 people awkwardly handing out resumes with zero actual industry people there. Anyone else find these free events are basically just desperate job seekers circling each other?

Wait, is this what all "networking" events have turned into nowadays? Its like everyone just shows up hoping someone else will have a connection but nobody actually does. I mean, forty people circling each other sounds brutal, especially when you're all in the same boat trying to get anywhere. Feels like those events are more about the library saying they offer something than actually helping anyone land a job. You're basically just paying for parking to shake hands with other people who also need a job.

Hang on, forty people? I had to read that twice. Forty people all circling each other like a weird human merry go round, that's just insane to me. I would have walked in, seen that, and just turned right around honestly. Feels like the library is just trying to pad their attendance numbers for some grant or something, not actually help anyone. You're totally right, it's just a bunch of people in the same boat staring at each other's nametags.
