Company paid for a LinkedIn course, I learned more from a $12 book

My employer in Austin spent $400 sending me to a two day LinkedIn workshop. Most of it was generic advice about keywords and posting schedules. Last month I picked up an old networking book for $12 and got more useful tips about following up and asking good questions. Has anyone else found that cheap resources beat the expensive corporate training?
