A recruiter in Austin told me to take the $52k offer because "nobody negotiates their first real job," and I almost believed her
I met this recruiter at a coffee shop on South Congress in Austin about 8 months ago. She had set up the intro call for a junior analyst role, and when I asked about pushing for more money she laughed and said the company does not move on entry offers. I was 23 and scared, so I said okay. Two weeks later a guy from my class got the exact same title at the same company and started at $61k because he just asked. That $9k difference is still sitting in my head. I called her back and she said the budget was already closed. So now I tell anyone who will listen to at least try once. Even a polite email can move things. Has anyone here actually gotten a first offer bumped, or did you get shut down like I did?
