Why does nobody talk about how bad the fire rings are at Wind Cave?
I was camping at Wind Cave National Park last Labor Day weekend. Every single fire ring sits on a concrete slab but the ring itself is just a thin metal band. My fire kept spreading underneath the log I had going. Had to dig around with a stick to move embers back in. Am I the only one who runs into this at national park campgrounds?

Am I the only one who runs into this" - yeah pretty much, but maybe it's just me being clumsy. I had the same trouble at Wind Cave last summer, my log rolled right off the thin metal ring and sent sparks flying into my tent. I spent the rest of the night poking at embers with a half-burnt stick like some kind of campfire librarian. Did you ever try stacking rocks around the edge to keep logs in place, or did you just give up like I did?
