Vent: I finally stopped trying to save a buck on tent stakes
Bought a cheap $10 set of aluminum stakes from a big box store last spring. First trip to Lost Lake they bent like pretzels in the rocky ground. Watched my buddy's MSR stakes hold through a windstorm while mine got pulled out by breakfast. Took me three trips of cursing before I ponied up for the real ones. Anyone else learn the hard way that some gear just isn't worth skimping on?

Snapped three of those cheap ones on my first trip to Yosemite and swore the whole way down the trail.

Used to carry those flimsy aluminum poles thinking they'd save weight. Then I slipped on a wet rock in the Smokies and watched one bend like a wet noodle. Total waste of money when you're miles from the car. Switched to something sturdier after that and never looked back. Your Yosemite story makes total sense to me now.
