Serious question, has anyone else tried using a cheap shower curtain as a footprint?
I was tired of paying $40 for a branded tent footprint that always seemed to rip. I bought a $5 vinyl shower liner from the dollar store and cut it to size. It's held up for two seasons now, no punctures. What other cheap swaps have you guys found that actually work?

Totally did the same thing with a tarp from the hardware store. Works way better than the overpriced stuff. Also use old coffee cans for organizing nails in the garage.

Old coffee cans for nails is such a solid move. I tried using those little plastic bins but they always crack. Do you just keep the cans loose on a shelf, or have you rigged up some kind of rack to hold them all? Trying to picture the setup.

I'm with you on the shower curtain thing. I did the exact same thing two years ago and it's still going strong. But what really gets me is those "official" footprints that cost more than the tent itself. It's like they know we'll just buy whatever they slap a brand name on. Honestly, the cheap vinyl holds up way better than that thin coated nylon stuff they sell. I just cut mine with scissors and used grommets from a craft store to reinforce the corners. Haven't had a single tear yet, even after some rough camping trips.
