My uncle pulled out a 1972 Svea stove at Cathedral Lakes and it outran my $70 canister setup
Camped with my uncle at Cathedral Lakes in Yosemite two weeks ago and he brought this little brass Svea 123 from like 1972. I had my fancy canister stove and was feeling pretty good about it until his thing boiled water in about 2 minutes while mine took closer to 4. He said he's used that same stove on every trip since he was 19 and never once had it fail, which is wild to me since I've already replaced two canister stoves in 6 years. It got me thinking about how much of my gear buying is just chasing new stuff when the old simple designs still work great. Now I'm half tempted to hunt one down on eBay even though my current stove works perfectly fine. Anyone else here still running gear from the 70s or 80s that just refuses to die?
