My Coleman stove failed on a rainy Boundary Waters trip, and honestly, I think the whole 'rely on one stove' advice is flawed.

We were three days into a week-long canoe trip when my primary stove's pump seal gave out in a downpour, forcing me to use my tiny, old backup stove for the remaining four days, which worked perfectly and saved the trip.

Didn't your buddy have a stove fail on the John Muir Trail?

Remember that trip, but you're mixing up the details, evan_harris14. His stove worked fine, it was a busted water filter that caused the real headache. We had to boil everything for two days, which wasted fuel and time. That's why I always carry backup purification tablets now. A stove failing is one thing, but losing clean water changes the whole game out there.
