My $80 tent failed in Utah but my buddy's cheap one held up
Camped near Moab last month and a windstorm hit at 3am, my poles snapped while his $40 Walmart special stayed standing. Anyone else had a pricey brand just fold on them while the budget gear comes through?
Watched my brother's REI tent leak like a sieve during a storm in the Uintas while my $35 Ozark Trail stayed bone dry, so yeah, I get it. Used to swear by the fancy brands and figured you get what you pay for, but that trip flipped my whole way of thinking. Turns out a lot of those big price tags are just paying for the logo and the marketing, not better poles or fabric. Some of the cheap stuff is built just as solid, sometimes even better, because they know they have to earn your trust without the fancy name. Still stings when you drop real money and it lets you down though.
