Warning: The $12 cable sleeve from Amazon melted my HDMI cord last Tuesday
Last Tuesday I was sitting on my couch in Austin watching a movie when I smelled something like burnt plastic. I looked behind my TV and the cheap braided sleeve I bought for $12 on Amazon had basically fused to my HDMI cable. Turns out the sleeve was rubbing against the back of my space heater that I had plugged in near the TV stand. The heat from the heater made the sleeve shrink and melt right onto the cord. I had to cut the whole thing off with scissors and now my HDMI cable has a weird gooey spot. My friend who works at Best Buy said this happens more than people think when you bundle power cords and data cords together. So if you're routing cables behind a TV, keep the power lines away from anything that puts out heat. Has anyone else had a cable sleeve or wrap get damaged by heat like this?

My dumb self would totally do this and then wonder why my TV smelled like burnt toast.
