Reality check on heat shrink labels, they fade way faster than I assumed

I printed cable labels with a cheap heat shrink tube kit last March for my home theater rack and by July half of them were unreadable, has anyone found a brand or method that actually holds up past a few months?

Did you ever stop to think the labels might be fine and your rack is just cooking them? Heat shrink fades fast when it sits right above hot gear, so moving the labels a few inches away or adding a small fan could fix the whole problem. Buying a fancier brand won't save you if they're still baking back there.
