That job in Oak Park where the client changed the stain three times
Man, last month I had this kitchen remodel in Oak Park that just about broke me. The client picked a dark walnut stain, I did the sample door, they loved it. I stained all the cabinet frames, then they saw it in the light and said it was too purple. So we went with a classic espresso. I redid everything, and the day before install, the wife brings home a pillow from some store and says 'I want THIS color.' It was basically a gray wash. I had to strip and sand every single piece a third time in my shop. My arms were jelly for a week. The only thing that saved me was my old orbital sander and about $200 worth of fresh sanding disks. How do you guys handle it when a client keeps changing their mind after the work is already done?

Honestly, at that point I would have been tempted to just hand the client the sander and let them have at it lol. But for real, @the_mia is totally right, you gotta charge them for every single change. If they're paying for three different jobs, they can have three different stains. My sympathy ends when my forearms start screaming.

Two hundred bucks just on sanding disks is insane. Honestly, that's the kind of change order you charge full price for, no question. They gotta feel the pain in their wallet too.
