Spent $22 on a marking gauge and it embarrassed my combination square

For six years I scribed all my cabinet joinery with a combination square and a pencil, then last Tuesday I bought a $22 wheel marking gauge and my knife lines got so crisp I actually felt dumb about the pile of scrapped rail stock behind my bench, so what's the cheap tool you put off buying way too long?
