Showerthought: I've been cutting my dados backwards for three years

My apprentice finally asked why I always set the router fence on the wrong side, and I realized I'd been doing it the hard way since my first job in Boise. Anyone else have a basic technique they somehow messed up for ages?

Backwards dados" reminds me of my first dovetail jig disaster.

Was it really a disaster though? I mean, I've messed up cuts before and just glued in a shim or filled it with wood putty. Most of the time you can fix it without anyone noticing. Unless you're making museum pieces, a backwards dado is just a chance to get creative with the repair.
