Unpopular opinion: a health inspector walked into my shop on a Friday at 4pm and changed how I handle every single trim
I run a small shop in Boise and a guy from the health dept showed up unannounced right before close back in March. He poked around for 40 minutes and then asked to see my written plan for what happens when a customer asks me to grind their own deer during rifle season. I had nothing on paper, just a handshake habit I picked up from the old owner. He said in the past 2 years he has written up 3 shops in our county for cross contamination between wild game and retail beef, and one of them got shut down for a week. Now every wild game order gets logged with a date, a tag number, and its own set of wiped down tools before anything else touches that block. It costs me maybe 5 extra minutes per deer but I stopped losing sleep over it. Anyone else had to put a written game handling plan together, or is this just a my county thing?
