Update: paid $1,200 for a dedicated fiber line at my shop and the failover LTE backup is what actually saved me
Six months ago I moved my print shop into a bigger space off Highway 99 and signed up for a dedicated 100 meg fiber circuit for around $1,200 a month. Main reason was upload speed, we push big design files to clients all day and the old cable setup choked every afternoon. I also added their LTE failover backup for another $40 a month and honestly thought it was a waste of money. Well, two Tuesdays back a city crew sliced the main fiber line near our building and the shop went dark internet wise for about five hours. The failover kicked in in under a minute and we kept taking orders and sending proofs the whole time. Our neighbor in the same complex has regular cable business internet and he was dead in the water, lost a whole day of card payments. The $40 add on paid for itself in that one afternoon. If your shop takes card payments or lives on cloud software, ask your provider about a real failover line, not just a promise. What is everyone else running for backup when the primary line goes down?
