Switched our shop to a 5G business gateway to save $110 a month, got one bar and a surprise
So our little print shop in Boise was paying $189 a month for a 100 meg cable line that went down every time a truck clipped the pole on our street, which happens more than you would think. I got fed up and signed up for a 5G business gateway deal that promised 300 megs for $79, figured worst case I eat the setup fee and switch back. First speed test in our front office, one bar, 12 megs down, slower than the cable I was ditching. Turns out the only spot with a good signal is the back corner by the paper cutter, because the wall facing the tower is basically cardboard. I got a 25 foot cable and mounted the gateway up near the ceiling on a shelf I built from scrap plywood, and now we pull 280 megs almost every time I check it, and it has not dropped once in 6 months. My rep laughed when I told her and said half her tickets are just people moving the box two feet. So here is my thing, my UPS guy says every business on our block is fighting the same dead spots, is anyone running an external antenna on one of these, and does it actually help or am I just buying more junk?
