Saw a guy at the Aurora flea market pay $4 for a cooler full of dented cans labeled $1 each
I was at the Aurora flea market last Sunday just walking the rows when I stopped at a guy selling dented canned goods. He had a cooler with a hand written sign that said a buck a can, and this older dude bought the whole thing for four dollars without even looking inside. I watched him crack it open and count 23 cans, all still in date, just banged up from shipping. It hit me that he basically paid 17 cents each for the same chili and peaches I buy at full price. Does anyone else hit up flea markets or discount racks for pantry stuff like this? I feel dumb for never trying it before.
Would you really eat chili out of a can that got dropped hard enough to dent it though? I get the whole saving money angle and 17 cents a can is cheap, but dents can mess with the seal and you have no clue how long it sat in some hot warehouse or truck before it hit that table. My buddy grabbed a bunch of dented stuff like that once and two of the cans were bulging when he opened the case at home, straight into the trash. Saving a few bucks is not worth a night hugging the toilet or worse. I would rather pay full price and know my food is safe.
