I finally hit my $500 emergency fund goal after hearing a coworker say 'a budget is just a plan for your money, not a punishment'.
That got me thinking... is a budget's main win the peace of mind from a safety net, or is it the daily control it gives you over spending?

Both, but the peace of mind is the real prize. The daily control is just how you get there.

It's like knowing exactly what's in your pantry so you don't worry you'll run out of food. That daily check-in gives you a map, and just having the map makes the whole trip feel less scary.
