My bag broke in Barcelona airport last month. Should you splurge on a pricier travel bag or does cheap and replaceable make more sense?

Oh man, this is a good question because I've been on both sides of this. Honestly, I used to go cheap all the way and just treat my bag like it was disposable, but after having a strap snap on me in the middle of a crowded train station in Rome I kind of changed my tune. You don't need to spend a fortune, but there's a middle ground where you get something that'll actually hold up for a few trips without falling apart. A bag that costs like 80-100 bucks can be way better than those 20 dollar specials, especially if you're traveling somewhere busy where stuff gets tossed around. Just my two cents, but I'd rather spend a bit more upfront than deal with carrying my stuff in a ripped bag through an airport again.

You ever notice how this whole buy-it-once versus replace-it-over-and-over thing shows up in so many parts of life, not just travel bags? I see it with tools people buy for their houses, with kitchen stuff, even with the shoes they wear to work every day. The cheap stuff seems like a good deal at first but then you end up spending more in the long run because you're replacing it all the time. And there's something about a bag that's held together through a few trips too, it's like it has a story to tell. I think the trick is figuring out where you're willing to put up with a little hassle and where you really need something solid. For me, I'd rather pay a bit more upfront and not have to worry about my stuff ending up on the floor of some busy terminal.
