TIL frozen veggies are actually cheaper than fresh in most stores

I used to ALWAYS buy fresh broccoli and green beans because I thought frozen was more processed and cost more. Last month I actually looked at the per pound price at my local Kroger and the frozen bag was 40 percent less. I tried them in a stir fry and honestly couldn't tell the difference after cooking. Has anyone else switched to frozen for certain meals and noticed a big savings?

Wait, are you sure they're really one to one the same after cooking? In my experience frozen broccoli gets way mushier than fresh, especially if you're not careful with the cooking time.

The trick with frozen broccoli is to not thaw it first at all, just toss it straight from the bag into a hot pan with a little oil and garlic. I learned that from a cooking blog and it changed everything for me. You want to cook it fast on high heat so the water evaporates quickly instead of steaming the florets into mush. If you boil it or microwave it, yeah it gets soggy, but a quick stir fry or even roasting straight from frozen gives a much better texture. I've been doing this for about six months now and the savings really add up, especially since I can just grab a bag without worrying about it going bad in the fridge.
