Just realized I can feed 4 people for $6 with a bag of dried beans and rice if I plan ahead
I was at my sister's place in Sacramento over the weekend and she made this huge pot of black beans and rice that fed all 6 of us for dinner, plus she sent me home with two containers. She said the whole thing cost her about $6 total because dried beans are like $1.50 a bag and rice is cheap in bulk. I always bought canned beans before because I thought dried took forever, but she showed me you just soak them overnight and simmer for an hour. I made my own batch Tuesday and it made 8 servings which works out to like 75 cents a plate. I froze half so I don't get bored of eating the same thing all week. Does anyone have a good way to change up the flavor so it doesn't taste the same every time?
