Appreciation post: The week I finally stopped wasting food with a $5 meal plan
For years I'd buy groceries and throw half of it out. Last month I tried a free PDF meal plan from a local library in Austin that uses cheap staples like rice, beans, and frozen veggies. After one week, I had zero spoiled produce and saved $30. What's your best tip for not wasting food on a budget?

Respectfully, I see this a little differently. Meal plans can work for some people, but in my experience they often create more rigid rules that lead to waste if you don't stick to them perfectly. Those PDFs don't account for your specific leftovers or the odd half-bag of carrots you already have. What's actually helped me is just planning around what's about to go bad, not a list from someone else. Like, if I have spinach, I build meals around using it up first, not buying more stuff for a recipe. Your mileage may vary, but a flexible "use it up" mindset has saved me way more than any pre-set plan has.
