Update: the guy at the fabric store in Fresno who gave me his sandwich, not advice
Two years back I was digging through the clearance bin at a fabric place off Blackstone in Fresno, hunting for anything that could pass as fake leather for a Star-Lord jacket. I had about $11 left on me and a whole lot of nothing in the cart. This older guy next to me watched me put back a $6 remnant three times and finally just handed me half his turkey sandwich and said, "eat something, you look like you're about to cry in a Joann." Then he pulled a beat up vinyl jacket out of his own bag and showed me how he'd painted the shoulders with shoe polish and a sponge, total cost like $4. I've built a dozen cheap cosplays since then, but that sandwich is the part I still think about. Nowadays I see folks on here stressing over $200 wig commissions and I get it, I really do. But I keep wanting to ask, has anyone else had a random person hand them something mid-build that ended up mattering more than the build itself?
