Tried a 3/8-inch joint on a garden wall in Spokane and the whole thing looked way too busy.
I learned that sometimes sticking with the classic half-inch is better for a clean look, especially with a rustic brick, so what's your go-to joint width for a residential feature wall?

Yeah, that 3/8 can get fussy real fast, especially with a textured brick. For a feature wall inside a house, I usually split the difference and go with a 3/8 joint. It's tight enough to look clean but still has some presence. The half-inch is a safe bet for outdoors, though.

You said a half-inch joint is safe for outdoors, and that really hits on something. It feels like we're always trying to find that safe middle ground in everything, you know? Like with paint colors or even how loud to play music when people are over. We pick the option that won't cause any trouble instead of what might actually look or feel best. Maybe that's why so many houses end up looking the same.

Wait, are you saying a half-inch joint is the safe middle ground? Because honestly, that's the bold choice in most neighborhoods. The real safe pick is 3/8. That's the one everyone uses so their house looks like all the others. Going half-inch actually takes some guts.
