Job site debate: should we trust laser levels or go back to string lines?

Last month on a warehouse job in Toledo, my laser level kept drifting in the heat and we had to redo a whole course of brick. I always thought lasers were faster, but that setback cost us half a day and extra mortar. My foreman swears by string lines for anything over 50 feet, saying the old way never lies. But another guy on the crew says lasers are fine if you check them often. Which do you lean on for long runs, and has a laser ever messed up a wall for you?

Heat kills lasers, string lines don't lie. Check the bubble every 20 feet.
