A rainstorm in March soaked my mortar bed, and I'm done trusting weather apps
Walking away from that job taught me a hard lesson about scheduling. Forecast said 20% chance of rain so I laid out 400 block on a Tuesday, and by 3pm it was pouring. I tried throwing plastic over it but the bed was already soup and I had to tear out 40 feet the next morning. Waited three days for the wall to dry out before I could reset it. Now I'm wondering if I should just be building during the dry season and taking winters off like the old-timers around here did. How do you all handle questionable forecasts on bigger walls?
Weather apps are the same as every other "smart" tool now, they give you a number and you stop paying attention to the sky. Old timers read the wind and the clouds and knew when to knock off, and half of them didn't own a phone. Guys who plan around a forecast instead of the actual weather keep getting burned. Three days of drying beats a morning of tearing out block every time.
