TIL the manicured garden at the Richmond arboretum bugged me more than the wild lot behind it
Went to the Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden in Richmond last month and spent 20 minutes in the rose section watching 3 workers deadhead and spray, and all I could think was that none of it needed to be there. Then I walked the unmanaged edge lot by the parking exit and saw 5 native bee species on ironweed in about 10 minutes. I get why people love the formal beds, the design and color are real, but a garden that needs constant feeding and poison is not really a garden to me. Not trying to tell anyone their thing is bad, just wondering if I am the only one who gets more out of the messy corner than the showpiece.
