I finally looked up why my jade plant's leaves were turning red at the edges

I was reading a book from the library called 'Houseplant Oddities' and it said the red color is a stress response, often from strong sunlight, and it's not always a bad thing. It was a surprise because I thought any color change meant the plant was dying. Has anyone else had a plant do something that seemed wrong but turned out to be totally normal?

My peace lily got brown tips and I panicked. Turns out it just hated the chlorine in my tap water. Switched to filtered water and it's been fine for years.

Oh wow, I never thought about the water type... my peace lily is in the bathroom for the humidity, maybe the shower steam has chlorine too?

My peace lily was doing the same thing last summer. I checked the water temp and found out our hot water heater had a ton of chlorine buildup from the city supply. Started leaving a bucket of tap water out on the counter for 24 hours before watering. The brown tips faded after a couple weeks. Filtered water works too but the bucket trick is free and just as good.
