Warning: I let my bookmark fall out of Gravity's Rainbow on page 312 and started using a rubber band
I fought that book for six weeks and kept losing my spot every time it slid off the nightstand, so I snapped a rubber band around the closed pages at page 312 and suddenly I stopped dreading picking it back up. Sounds silly, but knowing my place was locked in made the last 400 pages feel less like a chore. The book still won in the end, I quit around page 760 when a chapter about a light bulb went on for 30 pages. Did a rubber band or some other dumb trick ever keep you in a book longer than you wanted?
A rubber band around page 312 is honestly a solid move, I did the same thing with a fat fantasy novel and it kept me going way past when I should have quit. The trick that worked for me was a sticky note on the cover with the page number written on it, since digging for a bookmark felt like too much work when I was already tired. Sometimes a tiny thing like that buys you 200 more pages, and sometimes the light bulb chapter wins anyway, which sounds like exactly what happened here.
